College Counseling

At YSC Academy, we have created an individualized, college-counseling program with the goal of creating the best possible post-graduation options for each of our student-athletes. We follow a student-centered, student-led approach to the college-admissions process and expect each of our student-athletes to drive much of what happens with regard to the process. Students get themselves into college! In utilizing this approach, we find our student-athletes are more at ease throughout the process and take time to meticulously research and select schools that are best suited to their individual interests and needs, rather than focusing on rankings.

Our staff – counselors, teachers, administrators and coaches alike – are all fully invested in each student-athlete and contribute support in this process. Our goal early in the college-admissions process is to educate our student-athletes about the opportunities that are available to them, both academically and athletically.  Keeping a team concept at the forefront, much of the dialogue surrounding college options is done in collaborative group settings. The process starts in the 9th grade with individual and group meetings that provide an overview of different types of post-secondary institutions and underscore the importance of academic performance. The conversation continues in 10th grade, with students developing an initial “working list” of college prospects. As 11thgraders, each student-athlete continues to formalize and refine his college list and potential plans for the future by visiting and further researching schools.  College admissions testing options, requirements, and recommendations are discussed with student-athletes based on the specific schools identified. By 12th grade, our student-athletes are well prepared to submit applications and focus on graduation from YSC Academy.

Since an open-dialogue is incredibly important, the Director of College Counseling is available for any and all questions related to the admissions process on an on-going basis.
