The YSC Academy Advisory Program forges connections among students and the larger school community, creating conditions that facilitate both academic success and personal growth. The Advisory Program promotes meaningful relationships between staff and student-athletes that support the developmental and educational needs of adolescents.
Advisors act as the principal advocate for students as well as the primary link between YSC Academy’s online learning tool, home and school. Advocates mentor and support student-athletes, while serving as touchstones for student-athletes as they encounter a range of people and situations along the journey from orientation to graduation. Advisors make every effort to know student-athletes and their families well and to understand what the specific shared goals are for each individual.
Advisory time is scheduled daily during Breakfast and Morning Meeting, providing advisors a regular opportunity to meet with their assigned student-athletes informally to discuss issues and provide follow up. Student-athletes and advisors also utilize study-hall hours to meet, and all advisors post available advisory times on their office door. Grade advisory groups meet formally once per month to discuss grade-specific information and issues.
