Welcome to YSC Academy
“THE PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE, WHETHER ON THE FIELD OR IN THE CLASSROOM, STARTS WITH A PASSION FOR LEARNING”
YSC Academy’s tagline, Passion for Learning, sums up the mindset of everything we do. Walk into YSC Academy and you will notice the school looks and feels different from any other. That is because it was built with the student-athlete in mind – designed to integrate youth, soccer development with a college-preparatory education. Athletics and academics are aligned at the school to provide student-athletes the opportunity to maximize their potential both on and off the field.
At YSC Academy, we believe a high school program should lay the groundwork for life-long learning and should begin with knowing how adolescents learn. Adolescence is at the forefront of everything at YSC Academy. Based on scientific research, we have built a holistic and rigorous educational program that nourishes the biological, physiological, intellectual, socioemotional, and neurological wellbeing of our adolescent students. YSC Academy exists first and foremost because our students and faculty share a common belief in the value of giving students a “voice and choice” in their education. Opportunities for collaboration exists across all stakeholders, including students, faculty, and parents – all of whom work together to create an educational community that fosters learning.
YSC Academy’s highly experienced faculty is following a Blended Learning model. Educators fuse technology-rich classroom instruction with flexible online courses in English, Math, History, and Science. The school schedule consists of large blocks of learning time for deeper understanding. Students also take electives online in areas tailored to their interests and passions. Our Hybrid Learning Model is a refreshing and realistic glimpse into the future of learning.
A critical component of the school’s philosophy is its emphasis on character education through valuing each student’s voice. Morning meetings and town meetings provide a forum for students to bring their ideas to the community and design their own service learning projects. Students also have a voice and choice in developing field trips in the local community.
We know that the world is changing and that change is being driven by students. As an educator and researcher, I believe it is incumbent upon us to build schools where students can engage and play a role in their own learning process. When students know themselves as learners, they are more able establish their place in the world, discover their passions, and bring confidence to all they do.
Warmly,
Dr. Nooha Ahmed-Lee
